Prevention of eye problems is one of the first steps if you adhere to the fundamental daily practices for eye health. However, they are simple and easy to follow but the most neglected among others.

Maintaining eye health and having keen vision is a vital part of our daily lives. Here are seven things that you should include in your daily regimen.

1.  Don’t Rub Your Eyes

Your hands tend to accumulate dirt, dust, and bacteria, which can easily reach your eyes without you knowing it each time you rub or touch them. So, keep your hands a safe distance from your eyes to prevent infections and irritations.

If you have a strong addiction to rubbing your eyes and continue to do so, make an effort to get rid of it as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will have to suffer more and need to visit a professional eye care center for proper checkups and treatment of your eyes.

2.  Make Your Eyes Safe from the Sunlight

As sunlight and UV rays increase, so does the chance of getting age-related macular degeneration or even fighting cornea sunburn or photokeratitis. On the other hand, wearing sunglasses is a style statement that gives your look a much-needed boost.

But even more important is the fact that wearing sunglasses helps to safeguard your eyes. If you feel wearing these is not good for you, then simply use UV-protected eyeglasses or contact lenses. Wearing caps, visors, and hats is also strongly advised.

3. Maintain Hydration Level In Your Body

One of the most important components in maintaining overall body wellness is adequate water intake, which is also good for your eyes. If you ensure that your body is adequately hydrated, your eyes will not dry and get irritated.

4.Don’t Indulge in Smoking

Smoking raises your vulnerability to developing age-related macular degeneration and cataracts–a condition pertaining to the eyes. In addition, the nervous system, which is responsible for vision, can be affected by smoking. This brings the consequence of loss of vision gradually.

5.  Take a Balanced Diet

Beta-carotene, Lutein, omega-3 fatty acids, Lycopene, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E help maintain eye health. Ensure that you are getting a diverse range of foods, particularly those high in nutrients, from the diet plan you are following.

6. Make Use of the Appropriate Eye Make-Up

You may opt for branded make-up if they are the best option for your skin. Avoid such makeup products as eye shadows, mascara, and eyeliners that cause irritation or an allergic reaction to your eyes.

Always use a makeup remover before going to bed to prevent bacterial accumulation from the eyelid skin leftovers with make-up on. Consequently, clean your make-up brushes often, especially those you use for eye make-up, to avoid contaminating them.

7.  Get Enough Sleep

Just like the rest of the body, eyes have to recharge their batteries. This happens when you fall asleep. Therefore, it’s advisable to give your eyes enough time to rest and get the necessary sleep each night to keep them refreshed and healthy.
